Orthopaedic surgery is the surgical discipline directed towards to management of the musculoskeletal system. The name orthopaedic was derived from the Greek word Orthopedie which was translated to mean “the art of correcting and preventing deformities in children”. However, orthopaedic surgery now includes all of the surgical management of bones, cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments in adults and children.
